FERCHAU's AVIATION division specializing in aerospace engineering has moved into new premises in the Indian Garden City Bangalore. The engineering services provider's objective is to step up and expand its activities in the heart of India's aerospace industry. To be able to handle major project orders in India on its own, the currently 25-strong AVIATION team has moved into larger offices whose location is ideal for serving increasing customer demand and ensuring an optimum customer focus. By the end of 2015, FERCHAU AVIATION intends to recruit another 20 employees. In the medium term, the engineering services provider even plans to grow its workforce at the Indian location to 200, notably engineers and designers in the fields of primary and secondary structures, stress-strain analysis and software development as well as systems engineers.
"By expanding our presence in India we are responding to the currently sound order situation. We cooperate closely with our suppliers and have so far handled most projects in their offices. Now we wish to work on our own premises and use our own infrastructure for processing our orders. This means we need more space. Also, our new offices are an investment in the future, for we are poised to continue growing in the years ahead," is how Chief Technical Officer Thomas Hucht explains the reasons for the move.
Activities at the Bangalore location focus, above all, on specific design work, which comprises design, the production of drawings, and design verification of aircraft components. Typical projects cover the fields of flight test installation (FTI), repair instructions for CFK components, stress-strain analyses for aircraft components, as well as production drawings and definition sheets for cabin fittings. In addition, the capacities of the offices will also be used for customers from other sectors including engineering and shipbuilding.
The Indian location was established in 2013, in response to the growing importance of offset obligations in the sector, resulting from the insistence by foreign governments and customers for military and/or civil aircraft that companies such as Airbus shift commensurate volumes of work locally to these customers' own countries. In addition, a local office allows FERCHAU AVIATION to respond to the continuing price pressure in the aerospace industry. So as to keep operations profitable, at least 20 percent of the work needs to be completed in low-cost countries.
